Virtual Helsinki showcased for film industry professionals at the Cannes Film Festival
Helsinki Partners is presenting Virtual Helsinki at the Marché du Film in Cannes, France, with Helsinki-based XR studio Zoan, the creator of Virtual Helsinki. Zoan is a full-stack VR studio that creates high-quality virtual reality (VR) experiences and real-time 3D Models. Zoan’s solutions are based on technological innovations, such as the unique 3D modeling platform for real estate.
Helsinki Partners and ZOAN have teamed up with London-based production company Film Soho, which has a strong interest in virtual productions. Virtual Helsinki and ZOAN’s own metaverse, Cornerstone.land can be experienced next to the famous Boulevard de la Croisette on the front yard of Le Grand Hôtel Cannes.Virtual Helsinki is digital twin of the Helsinki City centre. The experience starts from Helsinki’s famous landmark, the empire-style Senate Square and the Helsinki Cathedral. The tour continues to the home of legendary architect Alvar Aalto. Finally you will end up to admire the city skyline and the nature of Lonna Island.
Helsinki is a good testbed for VR: big enough to enable the development and trial of significant innovations, small enough for it to be feasible. Virtual Helsinki was also used as a platform for a huge May Day celebration concert during the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020, reaching 1 million viewers. The event made history with an experience combining a live concert, game-engine-based virtual reality and streaming – and on top of that, the audience took part in the gig with their interactive avatars.
